Import and export your library
Your saves are yours. Saive stores every save as a markdown file, so the way in and the way out are both plain files you control.
Import bookmarks
- Open Settings in the web app.
- Find the import section and pick your file.
- Saive shows a summary of what it found. Confirm, and the import runs while you watch its progress.
Saive accepts two formats today, up to 20 MB:
- A bookmarks
.htmlfile. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Raindrop, and most services export one. In your browser, look for "export bookmarks" in the bookmark manager. - An Instapaper
.csv.
Pocket, Raindrop, and Readwise CSVs are not supported yet. Those services can also export a bookmarks HTML file, and that works here. Imported saves land private, like every save in Saive.
Export your vault
In the export section of Settings, click ⤓ Export all (.zip).
The zip holds your entire library as markdown: one .md file per save, plus
_concepts/*.md for the concept notes Saive builds across your saves. Each
file carries structured frontmatter (title, URL, tags, dates), documented in
the frontmatter schema.
The markdown files are the actual storage format, and the export is a copy of it. Nothing is converted or approximated on the way out.
Use it with Obsidian
Unzip the export into an Obsidian vault (or point Obsidian at the unzipped folder). Links between saves and concepts resolve, and the graph view works.
Troubleshooting
- The import rejects my file. Check the format list above. The fix is almost always exporting a bookmarks HTML file from the source service instead of a CSV.
- The export seems stale. The zip is built when you click, from your library at that moment. Re-download for the current state.
