Why your bookmarks deserve to be files

Most read-it-later tools treat your saves as rows in their database. Convenient until the day you want to leave — and then everything you carefully collected is trapped behind an export button that may or may not still work.

Saive takes the opposite bet. Every save is a real markdown file with rich frontmatter, stored in your library and downloadable any time. Drop the folder into Obsidian and the links light up. Grep it from the terminal. Keep it for twenty years. The intelligence Saive adds — summaries, tags, the concepts you keep circling — travels with the files, not against them.

This is the first note from that library. More to come: what we're learning building an AI bookmark librarian, and why portable by default changes what a bookmark is allowed to be.
